From No Shit Quarterly:

“We were shocked by the numbers,” says Nick Hanauer, a venture capitalist who came up with the idea for the research along with David Rolf, founder of Local 775 of the Service Employees International Union and president of the Fair Work Center in Seattle. “It explains almost everything. It explains why people are so pissed off. It explains why they are so economically precarious.”

This isn’t new. This study didn’t find anything new; it’s one more study reinforcing what we already know about productivity and capital in modern society. Wages have been stagnant for literally decades. The only way you could be shocked by this is if you’re in a tiny little bubble in which everyone around you insists that the system is working because it’s currently working for them. I’m in academia; I’m in favor of studies and research and all that jazz. But, we don’t need more studies to recognize that this is what’s happening; we need fundamental change to create an equitable society.
